Cassava Bread has come to stay


The policy of the Federal Government on Cassava Bread has received tremendous boost from the two major Flour Mills in the country; the Flour Mills of Nigeria and the Honeywell Flour Mills which control over 70% of the Flour milling industry.

N16 billion Tomato and Cassava Project in Anambra State



Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State launches the take off of a N16 billion Cassava and Tomato project, in partnership with Coscharis Group, a private investor. The project will entail Cassava production and processing into Starch as well as Tomato production. 

Be prepared for less rainfall, NIMET Warns

The nation has been warned to expect less rainfall in 2015. This announcement came from the Director General, National Meteorological Agency, Mr. Anthony Anuforo, during the launch of the 2015 rainfall prediction Programme in Abuja. He further informed the gathering that Nigerians, especially farmers, should plan for the coming season accordingly.
The good news is that farmers can now access the weather information via mobile phones. This is a welcome development as farmers can reduce losses related to faulty planning.

The 68th United Nations General Assembly declared 2015 the International Year of the Soil. Its aim is to create a platform to share stories, photos and multimedia related to the economic, cultural and the environmental impact of soil on your lives.

Fire Razes Mile 12 Market in Lagos



The major foodstuff market in Lagos, Mile 12 market has been razed down by fire. Two people were confirmed dead and goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed. The fire was said to have started around 4.45am and over 20 shops were affected. 

Ekiti to distribute 7,200 bags of fertilizer to farmers

The Ekiti State Stomach Infrastructure policy was given a boost as the Executive Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose is set to distribute a total of 7, 200 bags of fertilizers to farmers across the State; the Governor emphasized that the only bonafide farmers will benefit from the gesture. 

Additional Investment in fertilizer and Power Plant


The fertilizer production in Nigeria will be given a boost with the addition of 100, 000 Metric Tons of Ammonia and 165,000 Mt of Urea.

Minister of Agriculture Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, seeking for the position of the President of African Development Bank. The vice-president  was in company of the Hon. Minister himself who made a brilliant presentation to the audience in a flawless and impeccable French language; highlighting his plans and programmes if elected as the President. The election holds on the 28th May 2015, in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire during the bank’s annual meeting from 25th-29th May 2015.

Toyin Adetunji, Technical Adviser to Hon. Minister of Agriculture on Cassava Value Chain a.k.a 'mama cassava' received 'Outstanding Contributor Award' to Agricultural Transformation Agenda at the recent Agricultural Festival, (AgriFest 2015), organized by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The event showcased the activities and performance of the Ministry in the last 4 years and presented reward of  excellence to deserving key stakeholders.

Invention of a New Pelletizing Machine

A new pelleting machine has been fabricated from the Local pepper grinding machine by Dr. Oyin Olukunle of the Aquaculture and Fisheries Management department, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan.
The machine is rotary in nature and can pelletize any Animal feed. The operation of the machine is making the feed into dough after which it pelletizes and dry. This is a long overdue invention as many livestock and fishery practitioners are in dire need of this machine to up-scale their businesses.

IDH/ Grow Africa to support Industrial Cassava Value: development of Nigeria Cassava Platform
The Sustainable Trade Initiative and Grow Africa of the World Economic organized a workshop recently in Nairobi, Kenya with a theme 'Industrial Cassava Value chain: Partnership for Action'.  The programme is aimed at promoting the industrial value chain for cassava through support to farmer producers via the industries that use the commodity. 

Nigerian Breweries and Psaltry International Sign pact

Nigeria Brewery, Psaltry International, IFDC signed pact on Cassava productivity. The agreement is aimed at developing the entrepreneurial and agribusiness ability of farmers to improve the productivity of cassava; with the ultimate aim of enhancing industrial development.

Agriculture minister Adesina shares top award
