Agriculture minister Adesina shares top award

Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, dedicated a top award bestowed on him to staff in the ministry as well as stakeholders in the sector.
The minister received the award as the Leadership Public Officer of the Year 2013 at a ceremony.

He hailed stakeholders for steering the Transformation Agenda of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration.
“I have very supportive staff. I therefore dedicate the award to my hard working staff as well as the agri-businesses, seed companies, banks and in particular, all the state governors and commissioners of agriculture in the country. It is a collective success. I thank the President for his firm commitment to agricultural development,” Adesina added.
The award highlighted the minister’s role in enhancing the growth of agriculture in the country as Nigeria sought to shift from an economy overly reliant on the oil industry.
In Nigeria, agriculture is a major branch of the economy providing employment for 70 percent of the population.
The sector is being transformed by commercialization at the small, medium and large-scale enterprise levels.
